This walk through will show you how to connect to a wireless network in Windows 8 and Windows 8 RT from the start menu
For Windows 8 - From the start menu perform the following steps:
- Sweep the mouse from the bottom of the screen to the right edge and then run it up the right edge of the screen.
-This should be one smooth motion, no mouse click is required. This will activate the charms menu.
-Note that you must touch the bottom of the screen as well as the right edge of the screen or the charms menu will not activate - The charms menu will slide out from the right side of the screen
- Click Settings in the charms menu
- The settings menu will slide out from the right hand side of the screen
- Click the Network icon. The icon may look like:
- A set of signal bars or
- A computer with an ethernet cable next to it (name of network will vary)
For Windows 8 RT - From the start menu perform the following steps:
- Pull out the Charms menu by dragging your finger from the right edge of the screen, towards the middle of the screen.
- This should be one smooth motion. This will activate the charms menu. - The charms menu will slide out from the right side of the screen
- Tap Settings in the charms menu
- The settings menu will slide out from the right hand side of the screen
- Tap the Network icon. The icon may look like:
- A set of signal bars or
- A computer with an ethernet cable next to it (name of network will vary)
A list of available wireless networks will slide out from the right side of the screen
Click (or tap) the wireless network you want to connect to
- If you'd like to connect to this network every time it is in range, place a check in the Connect automatically block
Click (or tap) CONNECT
If this is a secured network, you will be prompted to enter the network security key
Enter the key and click (or tap) Next
If you need to unmask (view) the key, click (or tap) and hold the eye icon
You will be prompted to turn on sharing
NOTE: This is by personal preference and location
- If the customer is in a public location, it is best to select No, don't turn on sharing or connect to devices
- If the customer is at home or needs to join their network in the office, select Yes, turn on sharing and connect to devices
Select one or the OTHER
The list of available wireless networks is displayed
You should now show connected to the wireless network you selected
